4月1日讯 纽约市长白思豪当地时间周二表示，纽约需要尽可能多的呼吸机，并呼吁整形医生、口腔科医生和兽医捐出他们的备用呼吸机。
白思豪说：“如果你在你的办公室或你的手术室里有一台呼吸机，我们现在就需要它。 它不应该被闲置在那里。”“这是一场战争，每个人都需要贡献。”
医疗专业人员有时在手术过程中会用到呼吸机，宠物医院也有供宠物用的呼吸机，那些供大型犬使用的呼吸机经过简单改造后完全能够满足人类的使用需要。
白思豪说，纽约将需要约1.5万台呼吸机，用来在疫情高峰时治疗那些最严重的新冠肺炎患者。但一开始该市只有约5万台，过去一周又从联邦储备中获得了2500台。
“我们都不知道最糟糕的一周将在一周、两周、三周、四周还是五周内到来。 我们不知道疫情到底什么时候达到顶峰。 但我们知道，4月将是非常艰难的，我们正在努力让人们为疫情持续到5月做准备。”
